Christine Elaine Hollis

Elaine, devoted wife, loving mother of two sons, and grandmother of four grandchildren, passed away peacefully at Jackson Madison County General Hospital after a brief illness on Monday October 17, 2022.
She was born March 28, 1928 in Union, Mississippi, the only child of late Covert and Christine Jenkins. She graduated from Union High School in 1945 and attended Belhaven College for two years before transferring to Mississippi Southern College, now University of Southern Mississippi, where she received a Bachelor of Music in May, 1949. While at Mississippi Southern College, she met the love of her life, Alton L. Hollis. They married on December 22, 1948. Elaine taught music in the Oxford, MS schools while her husband attended law school at the University of Mississippi.
After Alton completed law school, they moved to Oklahoma City where she devoted her time raising her first born son, David, in 1952. Ultimately, they moved to Houston, TX in 1957. While in Houston, her second son, Robert, was born in 1961. In addition to being a wonderful and nurturing mother, she helped establish and direct the Leisure Travel Club at Citizens National Bank of Texas. Elaine was an avid traveler. She visited Europe and the USSR along with many destinations throughout the United States. She was a soprano in the Westbury Baptist Church choir. She was also an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and enjoyed attending musicals, operas and symphonies while living in Houston. They remained in Houston until they moved to Jackson, TN in 2007.
Al, her husband of 63 years passed away in 2011. While in Jackson, TN, she joined Englewood Baptist Church. In her later years she enjoyed watching the church services online. She still kept up with her friends from her Sunday school class. Elaine enjoyed reading and spending time with her grandchildren.
Elaine is survived by her sons: David S. Hollis and his wife, Nancy of Byram, MS and Robert A. Hollis, MD and wife, Lisa of Jackson, TN. Grandchildren: Chase Hollis of Byram, MS, David Gordon Hollis and his wife, Nikki, PhD of Clinton, MS, TK Kelly and her husband, Ryan of Marion, IL, and Michelle Hollis, Pharm D of Knoxville, TN. The family would like to thank Christy Atnip for her dedicated care while Elaine lived at her home.
A private family service will be held at Wilcox funeral home in Carthage, MS on Monday October 24, 2022 at 11:00 am followed by burial at the Ebenezer Cemetery in Carthage, MS.
Pallbearers: David Hollis, Robert Hollis, MD, Chase Hollis, David Gordon Hollis, Bill Hollis, and Ryan Hollis. Honorary pallbearer: Ryan Kelly. Vocal soloist: TK Kelly.
