Karen Denise Watlington

Karen Denise Watlington known as wife, mother, nana, sister, and friend, went home to Heaven on August 25th, 2026. Karen was born to Charles and Evelyn Taylor and grew up with siblings Charles “Buzz” and Jen. She met and married Kenny Watlington and they began their almost 50-year love story. As she settled into the role of wife, she next added the title of mother with Matthew and Ryan. She cherished her role as chef, chauffeur and head cheerleader for her boys even as she worked full time as an administrative specialist.

In 2012 Karen got a new role as grandmother of what would grow to become a boisterous crew of 8. Eli, Luke, and Caleb (Matthew and Kindell) and Madelyn, Paisley, Taylor, Ember, and Lilah (Ryan and Elizabeth). Everybody’s favorite Nana loved attending school and sporting events and was an enthusiastic watcher of many dance recitals, swim meets, soccer and baseball games. She enjoyed passing along her love of reading to her grandchildren, even when it meant performing many renditions of the same well loved tale. She took all the hugs and sugar she could steal with relish and was tickled to get to say “yes” as only a grandmother could. Her favorite treat of a Chai Tea latte, being surrounded by her grandbabies, and a 60’s radio station in the background would be her definition of a perfect day.

Karen always had a love for others and was known for her kind, generous, and caring disposition. She attributed this to her faith in Jesus and was proud to call herself “God’s Girl”. Her ability to trust in the Lord throughout life’s ups and downs sustains her family as they navigate their grief knowing she is at peace and at home with the Lord.

SERVICES: A time with family and friends honoring Karen's life will be held on Thursday, September 10, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Arrington Funeral Directors.

She will be missed by many and the family hopes to continue her example of trusting in the Lord for comfort and care as life comes your way.
