Jennings Brumley "J.B." Chandler

Jennings Brumley “J.B.” Chandler passed away on Saturday, August 8, 2026, in Jackson, TN.

J.B. was born August 9, 1935, in Gibson County, TN to William Jennings and Ruby Brumley Chandler. He grew up in Jackson, where he met his sweetheart, Judy Thicksten, in junior high and later married in 1954. J.B. played basketball and football at Jackson High. After high school, J.B. joined the Air Force, serving in telecommunications. After his service, they returned and spent most of their lives in Jackson. J.B. built his career in finance at Massey Ferguson. He served on the building committee for Old Hickory Academy, now known as the University School of Jackson.

In his leisure time, J.B. enjoyed playing tennis and traveling, enjoying the grandeur of this country he loved. Most of all, J.B. spent his time and energy showing his love and devotion to his family.

J.B. was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Gerald Chandler; and half-brother, Harold Wayne Dew.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Judy Thicksten Chandler; children, Gale Phillips and Sherry Carnell (Richard “Skip”); grandchildren, Melissa Lindeman (Neil), Jenny Puckett, Lee Carnell (Katie), Kevin Carnell (Jessica), Ryan Carnell (Courtney), Reed Carnell, Jacob Carnell (Jessie Kelsoe), and Ethan Phillips; great-grandchildren, Peter Lindeman, Kinley Carnell, Benjamin Lindeman, Turner Carnell, Christopher Lindeman, and Dean Carnell; and half brother, James Franklin Dew.

A funeral service to celebrate J.B.’s life will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 13, 2026, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Following the service, the burial will take place at Mt. Zion Church Cemetery in Medina, TN.
