Larry David Sanderson, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend passed away and entered Heaven on August 16, 2026 at the age of 73.
Born on July 28, 1953, in Jackson, TN to the late William David and Loreda Jackson Sanderson, Larry dedicated his life to his family and friends. Larry’s most beloved work was engineering trains for Illinois Central Gulf Railroad; he also had a long career in property management. More than his work, Larry loved spending time with his family, serving through medical missions, disaster relief and the role of deacon, and finding joy in boating, motorcycling, golfing, woodworking, and making pottery.
Larry is survived by his wife of 47 years, Carla Sanderson. He was a proud and caring father to his sons, Clayton and wife Laura (Jackson) Sanderson, Cody, and Cullen and wife Mollie (Greenlee) Sanderson. Larry cherished and found deep fulfillment in his grandchildren. He will long be loved and remembered as “Bop” by Clayton David, Sadie, Ethan, Jack, and Callie. He is survived by his sister Diane and brother-in-law Richard Collins, nephew Chris Presson, great-nephew Layne Presson, sister and brother-in-law Rheanne and Jim Burkett, nephew Lee Green and niece Kathryn Green.
SERVICES: A time with family and friends will be held on Thursday, August 20, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of his church, First Baptist Church, Jackson, with a funeral service to follow at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be nephews Chris Presson, Layne Presson and Lee Green and family friends Will Powell, Ben Joyce, Ben Aylor, William Mason, Luke Trammell, Ben Hurbis and Clayton Carrier.
The family is requesting any memorial contributions be directed to First Baptist Church’s Missions Fund, 1627 N. Highland Ave, Jackson, TN 38301 or to the Union University Carla D. Sanderson Scholarship Fund, 1050 Union University Dr., Jackson, TN 38305.
Larry will be remembered for his unwavering integrity, kindness, and devotion to those he loved. He loved Jesus and serving those that needed His love in times of need.
