Rachel Jeanette Smith passed away peacefully in her home on Monday, June 20, 2022, at the age of 84.

Rachel was born July 9, 1937, in Jackson, TN to the late John Harold Smith & Jeanette Prendergast Smith. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Annie Mai Jamison and Harriett Huggins.

She served for many years on the Board of Directors for the Madison County Farm Bureau and was honored as a Lifetime Director in 2021. She also served as the chairman for the Policy Development and Legislative Committee of the Bureau. In addition, she was placed on the Madison County Agriculture Wall of Honor in 2018. She was a member of the Tennessee Forage and Grassland Council, Madison County Livestock Association, Tennessee Cattleman’s Association, American Angus Association, American Simmental Association National Cattleman’s Association, Walking Horse Breeders and Exhibitors Association and the Rack Horse Breeders and Exhibitors Association.

She is survived by her dear friend and partner, Theresa Elmore; her partner’s children, James Elmore (Jackie), Anthony Elmore (Maria), John Elmore (Beth), & Gary Elmore (Karen); four nieces, Marilyn Ellis (Paul), Betsy Alexander (Andy), Joyce Jamison, & Patricia Lynn (John); and many friends.

A graveside service and burial will take place 11:00 AM Friday, June 24, 2022, at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. A memorial mass will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, July 8, 2022, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Mary’s Catholic School, 1665 US-45 Bypass, Jackson, TN 38305.
