Mattie Lorene Arnett Tyson

Funeral services for Mattie Lorene Arnett Tyson, age 99, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 20, 2023, in the Chapel of Arrington Funeral Directors, with Mr. Barney Crews officiating. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum at Highland Memorial Gardens.
The family will be receiving friends on Saturday, May 20, 2023, from 12:00 p.m. until the service time at 2:00 p.m.
Mrs. Tyson was born on May 15, 1924, in Corinth MS, and passed away peacefully at home on May 16, 2023, in Jackson TN.
She attended High School in Corinth, MS. She was married for 68 years to James E. Tyson, Sr. who predeceased her on January 20, 2012. She was a faithful member of Highland Park Baptist Church since 1966 and a member of the Barney Crews Sunday School Class.
She and her husband sang in choirs of several churches during their marriage and formed a quartet to perform at churches early in their marriage. Mrs. Tyson was a homemaker and beautician and, at one time, owned a beauty school in Corinth, MS and Beauty Salon in Murfreesboro, TN. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother and a Girl Scout Leader.
Other than her husband of 68 years, James E. Tyson, Sr. and her parents Henry and Azlee Arlie Arnett, she was predeceased by one son, Jerry Don Tyson.
She leaves to cherish her memory are two sons, James E. Tyson, Jr. of Franklin, TN and Dennis Whitney Tyson of Jackson, TN; one daughter, Rhonda Gaye Tyson of Columbia, TN; eight grandchildren, Bethany Tyson Sharp, Matthew Forrest Tyson, Nicholas W. Tyson, Whitney C. Tyson, Charles Justin Davis, Sarah Azlee Case, Audrey Tyson, and Clayton James Tyson; and nineteen great-grandchildren, Hayden Alexander Cook, Elijah Allen Sharp, Dakota James Sharp, Marielle Elizabeth Tyson, Miller Nathan Tyson, Beau Maxwell Tyson, Braxton Levi Tyson, Ava Rose Tyson, Karmen Amilia Smith, Izabella Faith Bradford, Maximus Edwin-Foxx Bradford, Laila Maliah-Azlee Case, Bradley Payton Davis, Lance Davis, Lily Tyson, Penny Tyson, Evelyn Tyson, Dodd Tyson, and Levi Tyson.
