Winetta Ann Tassin

November 12, 1953 — September 9, 2021

Winetta Ann Tassin, beloved wife, sister and friend departed from this life on Thursday, September 9, 2021, at the Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.

She was born the daughter of the late Denzel and Marjorie (Dockins) Dukes on Thursday, November 12, 1953, in Greenville, Kentucky.

Winetta graduated in 1971 from Milan High School with honors. After high school, she attended Union University where she graduated with honors in 1975 with a Music Education and earned a Masters Degree in Education from Travecca University in Nashville. Her love of music was a gift she shared with many. She possessed the kindness and the voice of an angel. Winetta became a beloved educator with the Milan School District before retiring after 31 years of service to the children of that community. She taught primarily in the 5th grade. Winetta was also an adjunct professor for Jackson-Madison County School Graduate College.

Winetta was a proud member of the Tennessee Educator’s Association and held the Presidency seat for that association for several years. She loved the Lord and was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Jackson, TN, where she was also a member of their choir. She was a committed vocalist who relished the opportunity to share her sensational talents.

Winetta met Danny Tassin when she was 16 years old and they shared a special bond from a very young age. Even though their life’s journey took them in different directions, they reconnected after 23 years when Danny graduated from college and made his way back to Tennessee. On November 12, 1994, Winetta joined Danny in marriage and they spent 26 joyful years together. Winetta treasured Danny and Danny adored Winetta.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Danny Tassin; three brothers, Denny Dukes of Knoxville, TN, Steven Dukes of Denver, CO, and Tim Dukes of Charlotte, NC; as well as many other friends and neighbors who will also mourn her passing.
She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
