William "Bill" Woods, a dedicated farmer and beloved family man, was born on July 18, 1937, in Gibson County, TN. He spent his life as a steadfast steward of the family farm, embodying the virtues of hard work and determination. Bill entered his heavenly home on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at his residence in Oakfield, TN, surrounded by his loving wife and family.
Bill attended school in Dyer, TN. He grew up in Good Hope Methodist Church and accepted Christ at a young age. He was a member of Oakfield Methodist Church.
Bill pursued a life deeply rooted in agriculture, enjoying the daily responsibilities of farming crops such as corn, soybeans, cotton and wheat. For many years, he managed impressive herds of cattle, demonstrating his commitment to the farming life that defined him.
Bill's legacy extends beyond his profession; he was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He shared a joyful marriage of sixty-four years with his wife, Betty Sample Woods, who was a crucial part of his life. Together, they raised their children, Brad Woods and Blair Woods Parker with love and dedication. Brad Woods (Teresa) and Blair Parker (Robby) will carry forward Bill's values. His grandchildren, Will Parker (Mallory), Tyler Parker (Mary), Madison Benton (Pat), Aaron Woods (Grace), Andrew Woods (Kelsey), and Abbey Simmons (Ryan), were among his proudest accomplishments, alongside his great-grandchildren, Woods Parker, Baker Parker, Gray Parker, Rylee Parker, Parker Benton, Rhett Woods, Ripp Woods, Evie Woods, Callen Simmons, Zachary Woods, Cara Woods, River Woods, and Julia Woods. Bill is survived by his siblings: Rebecca “Becky” Woods George, and Cletus Woods, Jr. as well as many nieces and nephews.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Cletus Woods, Sr. and Audrey Bradford Woods, along with his siblings: Sylvia Woods Fisher, Shirley Woods McGill, Tom Woods, June Woods Witherspoon, and Martha Ellen Woods Roberts.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Bill's life at a Memorial Gathering on Sunday, September 28, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., followed by a Memorial Service at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Arrington Funeral Directors with Conley Denton, a family friend, officiating.
