Wanna Ellis Martin

July 22, 1932 — August 18, 2025

Jackson

Wanna Martin, age 93, of Pinson, peacefully passed away on August 18, 2025, at Brookdale Senior Living, where she spent her last four years surrounded by caring friends and staff.

Born on July 22, 1932, Wanna was the cherished daughter of Leonard and Vera Ellis. She grew up with two brothers, Bobby (who preceded her in death) and Jerry (wife Becky).

A proud graduate of Pinson High School, Wanna continued her education at West Tennessee Business College. On April 11, 1952, she married her beloved husband, John (Pepper) Martin. Together, they raised three daughters: Cindy Overton (Sammy), Lisa Clements (Tim), and Rosemary Jones (Mark). Their family was further blessed with seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Wanna was a devoted wife, mother, and a dedicated member of Pinson United Methodist Church, where she served as the church pianist for over 40 years. Her love for music shone through, making it difficult for her to choose a favorite hymn, as she cherished them all. Her unwavering faith in Jesus Christ profoundly influenced her life, providing strength and comfort, especially in the five years since the passing of her husband, "Pep."

In addition to her family responsibilities, Wanna was actively engaged in her community. She held various leadership roles such as PTA president, Girl Scout Cookie mom, and was a dedicated member of the Ruritan Club. Her enthusiasm as a supporter of her children and grandchildren in their athletic endeavors was unmatched and lasting throughout her life.

Wanna was not only an accomplished homemaker but also an avid golfer. She was well-known for her delicious chocolate pies and tuna fish salad. As a member of the Woodland Hills Ladies Golf Association, she fostered many lifelong friendships.

Proverbs 17:17 states, "A friend loves at all times," and this verse truly reflects how Wanna lived her life.

The family expresses their heartfelt gratitude to Brookdale Senior Living for the love and care provided during Wanna's time there, as well as to the caregivers who have supported her and Pepper over the past seven years.
