Sherry Buck Sorrell

Sherry Buck Sorrell, a cherished member of the Jackson community and a devoted family woman, passed peacefully on the evening of Sunday, June 14, 2026, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. She was surrounded by her loving husband and family. Sherry was 60 years old.

She was born on September 17, 1965, in Jackson, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Charles G. and Mary Magdolene Thomas Buck. Sherry remained deeply connected to her hometown throughout her life. She was a proud graduate of Northside High School and pursued further education at Jackson State Community College, foundations that contributed to her lifelong commitment to personal and professional development.

Sherry’s professional career began with Union Planters Bank and included several other banks in the Jackson area for a 40 year span of serving the community with excellent service in a variety of roles in the banking field. In this capacity, she was recognized for her unwavering reliability and the energetic personality she brought to her work every day. Her readiness to assist colleagues and clients alike made her a valued presence in the workplace.

Beyond her professional life, Sherry was an active member of Englewood Baptist Church of Jackson, where her faith was a cornerstone of her daily life. Her spirited and caring nature extended generously to her church community and all who knew her.

Family was central to Sherry’s life and one of her proudest accomplishments. She treasured every moment shared with her loved ones, particularly her husband, Kelly Sorrell, and their son, Johnathan Sorrell. She was also deeply connected to her sisters, Rita Amis (Tommy) and Shelia Hillis, as well as her nephew Tim Amis. Throughout her life, Sherry maintained close bonds with these family members, who were a source of mutual strength and joy.

Sherry was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Charles Ghelen Buck and Mary Magdolene Thomas Buck; her niece, Christy Amis; and her brother-in-law, John Hillis. Their memories remain cherished in the hearts of all who knew Sherry and were part of her extended family.

SERVICES: A time with family and friends to honor Sherry’s life will be held on Friday, June 19, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Arrington Funeral Directors. Following the visitation, a funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. Adam Dooley and Dr. Bill Espy officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Springs Cumberland Presbyterian Church cemetery near Beech Bluff, Tennessee.

Serving as pallbearers will be Tim Amis, Harbert Alexander, Jr., Steve Thomas, Brian Arnold, Terry Buckley, Joseph Ross, Tim Wilson, David Robbins and Chris Manners.

Sherry Denise Buck Sorrell’s legacy of love, faith, and kindness will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her memory lives on through her family and the countless lives she touched with her generous heart and energetic soul.
