Obituary

Shelby was born November 5, 1936 in Cedar Grove, Tennessee to the late Martin Blain and Gracie Mae Roark Tines. She was one of four children. Along with her parents and infant brother Guy, she was preceded in death by her devoted husband of sixty years, Harold Broyles, in 2018.

Her family was Shelby's pride and joy. She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with her daughter, Mitzi Leigh Hinton of Nashville, TN; her son, Philip Broyles and wife Melinda of Ashland City, TN; brothers, Travis Tines and wife Sue of Memphis, TN, Billy Tines and wife Jackie of Huntingdon, TN, and David Tines and wife Gail of Jackson, TN; and sister-in-law Sue Broyles of Sparta, TN. Shelby's spirit lives on through her adored grandchildren, David Blain Broyles and wife Tori, Ada Katherine Spencer and husband Mike, Lyda Grace Padgett and husband Will, and Jonathan Philip Broyles. Her great- grandchildren, Carter Mason and Cash Grayson Broyles, Ada McKay Kemker and Philip Michael Spencer, and Jonathan Parker "JP" Broyles, her final blessing.

She especially loved her role as Aunt Shelby to Laca, Stanley, John & Karrah, as well as a host of Broyles nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Shelby's early years in Cedar Grove laid the foundation for a life of service and care. Her journey led her to the Baptist School of Nursing in Memphis, where she earned her Registered Nurse certification, a proud achievement that marked the beginning of a long and fulfilling career. Shelby's compassionate nature found its perfect expression in her work, first at Jackson General Hospital and later at the Jackson-Madison County Health Department. She also met her sweetheart at church in Memphis. They married on July 25, 1958.

Shelby and Harold were among the charter members of the Skyline Church of Christ and had worshiped there since 1959. She served as a deacon's wife and Bible School teacher for many years. Teaching the ladies Bible class brought her great joy, as did her involvement with the Soul Sisters, a testament to her commitment to fellowship and spiritual growth.

She was a talented cook and hostess whose interests reflected the beauty of her character. An accomplished seamstress, she was renowned for her skill in smocking and French Hand Sewing, an intricate craft she lovingly taught to others. Music, too, held a special place in Shelby's heart. Her love for singing, especially harmonizing with others, was a source of joy.

Above all, her life was devoted to the Lord and our beloved family. We love you Mother, Granny, "Miss Shelby." We thank God for your love and your life.
