Saundra Hickerson

Saundra Faye (Brown) Hickerson, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at the age of 73, at Maplewood Health Center in Jackson, Tennessee. She was born in Jackson, TN, on October 1, 1951.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her devoted husband of 44 years, George Hickerson of Jackson, TN; her children, Constance Bonds of Austin, TX, James Beard of Antioch, CA, Rumalous Brown of Austin, TX, Carla Word (Torrey) of Austin, TX, and Joshua Hickerson of Jackson, TN; her grandchildren, Pekeetia (Marcus) Levering of El Paso, TX, Marcus (Bianca) Barbour of Hollister, CA, Hasina Barbour of Houston, TX, Carmel Barbour of Austin, TX, Rachel Williams of Austin, TX, Christian Dunlap of St. Gloucester City, New Jersey, Carlos Word of Austin, TX, Joseph Lain of Knoxville, TN, Tyson Hill of Jacksonville, FL, Ryeu Brown of Jacksonville, FL; her great grandchildren, Jeremiah Williams-Levering, Jayden Barbour, Ava Barbour and Ruth Barbour; her brother, Mack Arthur Brown of Jackson, TN; and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded by her parents Columbus and Mattie Brown and her son, Dale Beard, Jr.

Saundra dedicated many years of her life to working as a daycare and preschool teacher. She found true joy in nurturing and educating children, decorating her classroom with care, and dressing in personalized outfits to celebrate every holiday and special occasion. Her passion for teaching and her creativity left a lasting impact on everyone she encountered.

She is cherished for her distinctive, tailored fashion sense, keen attention to detail, unwavering honesty, sharp wit, and her unforgettable, contagious laugh. Saundra's presence lit up every room, and her love extended far beyond her family.

For over four decades, she and her husband were faithful members of the Jackson Seventh-day Adventist Church, where she built lasting relationships. Always proud of her family, Saundra carried mini photo albums in her purse, eager to share stories and celebrate the lives and accomplishments of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

The Celebration to honor Saundra’s life will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Arrington Funeral Director.
