Sandra Kay Bates

Sandra Kay Bates, a beloved mother, sister, and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital in Jackson, Tennessee. She was 69 years old.

She was born on December 8, 1956, in Steele, Missouri, the daughter of the late Hershel and Ruth Griffin Holmes. Sandra lived a life marked by devotion, faith, and a deep love for both family and service. She attended the University of Tennessee at Martin, laying a foundation for a career characterized by care and dedication. Sandra spent the majority of her working life in the manufacturing industry, contributing her skills and commitment with grace and determination.

Sandra's kindness extended beyond her professional endeavors. She had a genuine love for animals, always showing compassion and care toward them. Her joyful spirit was often expressed through her love of Bluegrass music, and she sang with heartfelt sincerity at Lighthouse Church of Jackson, where she was a devoted member. Her faith was central to her life—Sandra was a person who loved her Lord deeply and found solace and strength in reading her Bible.

Family held an extraordinary place in Sandra’s heart. She was an exceptional cook who delighted in preparing meals for her loved ones, nurturing relationships through both food and fellowship. Known for her steadfast devotion, Sandra was a pillar of support and affection for those closest to her.

Sandra is survived by her son, Ronald David Bates, and his wife Elizabeth; her brother Udell Holmes and his wife Shelia; and her sister Janice Haskins and her husband David. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hershal and Ruth Griffin Holmes; her husband, Ronald “Ronnie” Walter Bates; brothers Royce, Bobby, Bill, and Ray Holmes; and sisters Rachael Cupples, Gracie Barner, Linda Webb, and Carolyn Holmes.

A Memorial Gathering to celebrate Sandra’s life will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Arrington Funeral Directors. Friends and family are invited to come together to honor her memory and share in the legacy of a woman whose warmth, faith, and love touched so many.
