Sam G. Burns

Jul 4, 1944 — Jun 20, 2026

Jackson, Tennessee

Sam G. Burns, of Jackson, Tennessee, peacefully entered his heavenly home on June 20, 2026, at the age of 81. Surrounded by his loving family in the place he called home, Sam’s journey through life was marked by devotion to his loved ones, commitment to his work, and the enduring values he upheld from his earliest days.

He was born on July 4, 1944, in Cleveland, Mississippi, the son of the late Percy and Josephine Harper Burns. Sam grew up embracing the principles of family and service that would underscore his entire life. He later answered the call to serve his country, volunteering to spend a treasured period in the United States Navy where he attained the rank of SK3—an experience that helped shape his steadfast character and sense of duty, serving two years active duty and four years in the reserve.

Following his military service, Sam embarked on a notable career with Kellwood Industries, where his leadership and work ethic earned him the respect of colleagues across several states. For twenty years, Sam played an instrumental role in the management of numerous plants in Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, and Arkansas ending his career as a General Manager. His hard work and unwavering dedication left a lasting impact at each step along the way. He would later work for Serra Chevrolet and Prudential Life Insurance before retiring in 2008. He was an active member of Englewood Baptist Church, participating as a member of the Tony Wamble Sunday school class, as well as, serving as a deacon. As a active deacon he was a member of the pastoral committee, visiting nursing homes. In his service to his church, he was also a faithful member of the choir until his health declined.

Above all else, Sam cherished his family, who now honor his legacy with gratitude and affection. He is survived by his devoted wife of sixty-two years, Faye C. Burns of Jackson, TN; his sons, Brian Burns (Sonya) of Milan, TN and Russell Burns of Jackson, TN; and his daughter, Kimberly B. Dickens of Greenville NC. Sam’s life was further brightened by the joy of his grandchildren: Allison, Weber, and Sarah Dickens of Greenville, NC; Colton Williams of Canton, MS and D.J. Williams of Greenville, NC. His heart was particularly warmed by the arrival of his great-grandchild, Easton Taffer.

Sam is also survived by his siblings: his brothers, Jerry Burns (Margie) of West Point, MS and his brother, Tommy Tisdell (Dianne) of West Point, MS, as well as his sister, Linda Burns Butler (Dudley) of Benton, MS. Each shared in the bonds of family that meant so much to him.

He is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Percy and Josephine Harper Burns, whose guidance and love helped mold the foundation of the man Sam became.
