Roy Cecil Hillhouse

July 4, 1928 — June 7, 2023

Roy Cecil Hillhouse, born July 4, 1928, in Memphis Tn, at the age of 94 transitioned peacefully to his permanent home in heaven on June 7, 2023.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Roy Lavern Hillhouse and Georgia McClendon Hillhouse.

He leaves behind his loving wife of over seventy-one years, Sula Turner Hillhouse, three daughters, Celia Murrah (Tom), Sherry Cox (Mark), and Crystal Clinton (Bill), five grandchildren, Matt Perkins, Rachel Boehms (Brandon), Taylor Cox (Shannon), MacKenzie Morrison (Kevin) and John Clinton (Emily) and one great granddaughter Shae Cox. He also leaves behind a loving sister-in-law, June Holloway, three nephews and many great nephews and nieces.

Cecil and Sula moved to north Jackson in 1956 and were charter members of Northside United Methodist Church. In 1971, they moved to Englewood Baptist Church where Cecil served as a deacon until 2012.

He was a commercial tire salesman for over 30 years for Firestone Tire and Rubber Co where he built loyal relationships with his customers. After retiring in 1980, he went to Hub City Tire Co selling Michelin tires for the next 12 years to many of his former customers, proving that confidence and trust built over many years was worth far more than the name branded on the tire.

Cecil was raised on his family’s farm in Hardeman County which he eventually inherited. Whether hunting, fencing, target shooting, trapping beavers, or just enjoying the sounds of nature in the woods there was no place more special to him.

Cecil was a problem-solver and the master of work-arounds, which allowed him to find a way to fix almost anything that was broken. He was always on the lookout to find ways to help others, mowing lawns, servicing cars, and other handyman jobs. He loved to help his children and grandchildren whenever and with whatever was needed. Cecil was an avid sports fan and loved to watch his children and grandchildren in anything in which they were involved. He loved the Atlanta Braves, Memphis Grizzles, and was a longtime Booster Club member of the Union University Basketball Teams.

In 2012 Cecil & Sula moved to Goodlettsville TN to be closer to their children. They joined Centerpoint Baptist Church and were active there for several years. In 2019, they moved to the Hearth at Hendersonville, a senior living community. In the first year there, Cecil won two medals in their Senior Olympic Games. They made many new friends over the past 4+ years and we are so appreciative of the caring staff who loved them and supported us during this difficult time. While we will all miss him, we are grateful to know his health has been restored in heaven, and we look forward to the day when we will all be together again.
