Rita Strait, a beacon of love and faith, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2026, in Jackson, Tennessee with her family by her side. She was born on September 8, 1947, in Holly Springs, MS the daughter of the late Dewey and Mildred Frances Clayton Gement. Rita's journey through life was marked by her boundless dedication to her family, her unwavering Christian faith, and her passion for helping others.

Rita's life was a testament to the power of love, as evidenced by her cherished marriage of fifty-seven years to her beloved husband, Jim Strait. Together, they built a legacy of compassion and commitment, which is continued by their son, David Tyler Strait, and their adored granddaughter, Arrow Strait. Rita's role as a wife, mother, and grandmother was her greatest joy, and she embraced every moment with grace and enthusiasm.

Her academic achievements were a source of pride and enabled her to fulfill her calling to serve. Rita was a proud graduate of Mississippi State College for Women, where she earned her degree in Speech Therapy. Her pursuit of knowledge and desire to make a difference led her to the University of Tennessee, where she furthered her education in Audiology. Rita's career was marked by her compassionate work with special needs individuals, where she made significant and lasting impacts on the lives of those she served.

Beyond her professional life, Rita's involvement in her community was extensive and heartfelt. She played a pivotal role in establishing the library at Trinity Christian Academy, leaving a lasting educational legacy. As a dedicated member and former leader of the Christian Women's Club, Rita shared her faith and kindness with many. Her commitment to her church, Englewood Baptist Church, was unwavering. Alongside her husband, she led the Jim Strait Sunday school class and brought her creativity to life through the production of the class newsletter.

Despite being affected by Vertigo, Rita's zest for life never waned. She found joy in water sports and motorcycle riding, embracing adventure and the beauty of the natural world. Her love of travel took her across Europe, Kenya, and extensively throughout the United States, and many times accompanying her husband on business trips. Each journey enriched her life with new experiences and cherished memories.

SERVICES: A time with family and friends to honor Rita's life will be held on Sunday, February 8, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Arrington Funeral Directors with a funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Gerry Miller officiating. Burial will take place on Monday, February 9, 2026, at the West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery at Parkers Crossroads in Wildersville, TN.
