Rickey 'Petie' Marchbanks, a beloved member of the Jackson community, was born on September 30, 1952 in Jackson, Tennessee. With a heart as warm as his smile, he embraced life with humility and determination, a true reflection of his humble beginnings. Rickey passed away peacefully at home on Friday, November 29, 2024, leaving behind echoes of laughter and fond memories cherished by family and friends.
As a well-respected sub-contractor, Rickey dedicated many years to his craft, focusing on hanging acoustic ceilings, laying tile, and installing hardwood floors. He was a sub-contractor for Hoyt Hayes Construction and Hayes & Sons Construction, where he not only showcased his exceptional skills but also fostered deep-rooted friendships that turned into family bonds over the years. The love and respect shared with both families stand as a testament to the strong relationships he built throughout his career.
Rickey was not one for the extravagant; rather, he exuded simplicity and authenticity. Rarely ever seen without a dip of Skoal, a Coca-Cola, and a Honey Bun in hand, he had a way of finding joy in the little things in life. His personality was genuine, and he was known for never conforming to the transient trends of todays world but instead maintained his core values with unwavering grace.
He leaves behind his cherished daughters, Melanie (Jonathan) Thornton and Abby (Jimmy) Lenard, and his beloved step-son, Joseph (Rebecca) Denton, all of Jackson, TN. He is also survived by his sisters, Vickey Ballard and Barbara Gammel. Rickey was preceded in death by his parents, James Charles and Evelyn Marchbanks, his devoted wife, Angela Smith Marchbanks, and his brothers, Mickey and Johnny Marchbanks.
Rickey was a devoted friend to so many, but before anything else, he was a father and 'Papaw Petie.' As a proud daddy, he was always bragging on 'his girls' who own Two Sisters Bakery.
Though he is no longer with us, the memories created with Rickey will forever remain in the hearts of all who had the honor to know him. His warm spirit, kindness, and dedication to family will surely be missed but never forgotten.
