Rev. John W. Jamison Jr.

Rev. John W. Jamison Jr, a devoted pastor and cherished community leader, was born on August 14, 1944, in Marion, North Carolina. He entered his heavenly home on September 5, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital in Jackson, Tennessee.

Rev. Jamison dedicated his life to serving God and his community, pastoring several churches and filling interim positions at many others. His commitment to reformed and presbyterian churches spanned from 1969 until his retirement in 2013. He played a significant role in the establishment of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA) as one of its founding members and served with the Orthodox Presbyterian Church (OPC) as the Interim Director of Machen Camp and Conference Center.

His passion for ministry and service touched many lives, embodying a spirit of giving and love that resonated throughout his career. An educator as well as a minister, Rev. Jamison held a Bachelor of Science from Belhaven University, a master’s degree in computer science from Mississippi State University, and a Master of Divinity from the Reformed Theological Seminary. These accomplishments reflect not only his intellectual curiosity but also his commitment to equipping himself for a life dedicated to faith and service.

Rev. Jamison was a loving husband to Nancy Abel Jamison, with whom he shared his life and faith. He is also survived by his sons, Mark Abel Jamison and wife Robyn, and Matthew Adam Jamison and wife Beth. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Stephen Jamison, Sarah Jamison, Luke Jamison, and Miriam Jamison. He is also survived by his brother, Alvin Jamison and wife Paula, and sister, Jackie Ross and husband Robert. He was preceded in death by his parents, John William and Nakomis Crawley Jamison, and his grandchild, Tyler Remington.

Rev. Jamison was a member of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church's presbytery of the SouthEast. He attended Providence Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Jackson, TN, where he continued to nurture his faith alongside his beloved wife. His passion for serving was felt not only within the walls of the church but also in the lives of all who knew him. He will be remembered for his unwavering devotion, generosity, and love for his family, friends, and community.

SERVICES: A visitation with family and friends celebrating Rev. Jamison’s life will be held on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Arrington Funeral Directors, with Rev. Steven Wright Officiating. Burial will follow in Ridgecrest Cemetery.
