Peggy "Peggy Sue" Yvonne Gourley Lowe

Peggy “Peggy Sue” Yvonne Gourley Lowe was welcomed into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, following a sudden event. She was 79 years old.

Born on July 2, 1947, in Lexington, Tennessee, Peggy Sue carried a warmth and grace that touched all who knew her She was a 1965 graduate of Lexington High School. Her kindness and unwavering devotion to her family and faith defined her life, endearing her to friends and loved ones across every chapter of her journey.

Peggy Sue is survived by her devoted husband of thirty-six years, Robert “Rob” Lowe, who stood faithfully by her side. Her legacy lives on in her loving daughter, Angela Sloan (William), and through her cherished stepchildren, John Lowe (Hollie) and Jenny Shawver (Don), her grandchildren, Braxton, Garrett, Kayden, Destinie Colton, Maddie and Ariana., as well as four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Peggy Sue is also remembered with deep affection by her brother, Lanny Gourley, and her two sisters, Barbara Kirby (Phillip) and LaNelle Hanson (Mark), whose bonds of family and shared memories endure beyond her passing.

The impression Peggy Sue left on her family was profound. Her career was various including Zayres in Memphis, a Nashville boot company, Milan Arsenal and Lifeline Blood Center. She spent over twenty years with Quaker Oats of Jackson, TN before retirement. She had a passion for cleanliness and held a reputation as a cleaning fanatic, cleaning houses for many years. Peggy loved to travel, shop and eat out, even though she was an excellent cook herself. She had chicken and dressing and sweet potatoes casserole recipes that were desired by many and her sweet tea was some of the best. Her nurturing spirit, gentle heart, and steadfast support were hallmarks of her presence. She rejoiced in gathering her family together and took delight in the milestones and accomplishments of each loved one.

Along with the memory of her parents, Alfred and Mattie Jo Stanford Gourley, who preceded her in death, she was also preceded by a brother Jimmy Gourley and wife Janice and a sister-in-law, Susan Gourley.

The only television she enjoyed was the local news, the world news and wheel of fortune every day – it was a must! She also loved watching Dancing with the Stars. In her spare time, she loved word search books, dot to dot books and coloring.

Those who had the privilege of knowing Peggy Sue will remember her faith-filled strength, her quiet acts of generosity, and the unwavering love she extended to all. She was a member of Chapel Hill Baptist Church of Milan, where she as a member of the Grace Sunday school class and also served as the church clerk for twelve years. She would also volunteer her time to the RIFA Soup Kitchen. The love and support and the community of the class and RIFA was endearing. She loved her Lord and Savior and spent time daily studying the word.

SERVICES: Family and friends are welcome to join in honoring and celebrating Peggy Sue’s life on Sunday, August 2, 2026, at Chapel Hill Baptist Church, 76 Chapel Hill Road, Milan, TN 38358. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. and will continue until 4:00 p.m., followed immediately by the funeral service at 4:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Browns Cemetery.

Peggy Sue leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and enduring devotion. Though her physical presence will be deeply missed, the memories and lessons she imparted will continue to inspire and uplift all those who knew her. May she rest in eternal peace.
