Opal Virginia Hunt

October 20, 1925 — September 30, 2026

Jackson, TN

Opal Virginia Hunt, of Jackson, Tennessee, passed away on September 30, 2026, in Jackson at the age of 100.

Born on October 20, 1925, in Jackson, Virginia lived a long and remarkable life marked by strength, conviction, and an unwavering sense of purpose. In the days leading up to her passing, she told those around her that God was waiting on her and that she was going home to be with Him. That deep faith guided her life and brought her peace at its close.

Virginia graduated from high school and went on to devote her life to nursing. Her family said she was a nurse her whole life, even after retiring. Caring for others was not simply her profession, but a lasting part of who she was.

She was known for being self-reliant throughout her life. Virginia did not depend on others to do things for her and carried herself with a determination that never left her. She even mowed her own grass until she was 98 years old, a reflection of the independence and strength that defined her.

Virginia was also remembered for her spirited and feisty personality. She was a resident of Maplewood for the last two years, and everyone loved her dearly. Staff and residents both adored Virginia.

Above all, Opal was proud of her faith. She knew her Lord and was never afraid to share that faith with others. For years, she witnessed to anyone and everyone—those who welcomed it and those who did not. Her boldness, sincerity, and devotion were central to her life and to the way she connected with the world around her.

Left to cherish her memory is her special niece, Catherine DeLoach; her go-to niece, Carolyn Blurton Beasley; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Matilda Hunt; eight brothers; and seven sisters.

There will be a private family service.

Opal Virginia Hunt will be remembered for her long life of service, her fierce independence, her lively spirit, and her steadfast faith. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew her.
