Neal Richard Young

Neal Richard Young, a devoted family man and cherished member of his community, passed away unexpectedly on June 6, 2026, in Milan, Tennessee, at the age of 81. Born on December 5, 1944, in Chester County, Tennessee, Neal lived a life marked by dedication, humor, and passion for the simple joys.

A graduate of Southside High School in the class of 1964, Neal embarked on a career path that showcased his leadership and commitment. He worked as a manager at Enco Materials for several years. Following the company’s acquisition by Gerdau, he continued his valued service with the new management, exemplifying his steadfast work ethic and reliability.

Neal was a man of many interests who found happiness in a variety of pastimes. He loved to fish and was an avid reader, often lost in books that sparked his imagination. Wrestling was one of his great passions, and he was known as a huge fan of the sport. Additionally, Neal’s fondness for cinema was evident through his enjoyment of going to the movies and his particular love of old western films, which brought back fond memories and a sense of nostalgia. True to his spirited nature, he was a jokester who used humor to brighten the days of those around him.

Above all else, Neal was most proud of his loving family. On September 23, 1967, he married Judy Qualls, with whom he shared a deep and lasting bond. Together, they raised their son, Richard. Neal’s love extended warmly to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought immeasurable joy to his life. His family was the central pillar of his happiness and pride, a testament to the loving and generous spirit he carried throughout his life.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 58 years, Judy Young; son, Richard Young (Jennifer) of Medina, TN; grandchildren, Taylor Andrew Young and Lindy Allene Young both of Nashville, TN, and Aaron Pendergrass (Yasmin) of Santa Rosa, CA; brothers, Fred Allen Young and Jerry Edwin Young both of Henderson, TN; sister, Dora "Claudette" Taylor of Henderson, TN; and great-grandson, Philip Pendergrass. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edger Dwight Young; brothers, James Ray Young and Harold Young; and sisters, Maxine Johnson and Kathryn Carroll.

A funeral service to celebrate Neal's life will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 9, 2026, in the chapel of Arrington Funeral Directors. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service.

Neal Richard Young leaves behind a legacy of joy, warmth, and steadfast devotion to those he loved. His presence will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of his family and the many lives he touched. In remembering Neal, we honor a life well-lived, marked by love, laughter, and an enduring commitment to family and community.
