Mildred Childress Roe, a devoted mother, cherished grandmother, and beloved great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 27, 2025, at her home at the age of 97.
She was born in Jackson, TN on February 8, 1928, the daughter of the late William Arthur and Erfie Lula Surles Childress. She was married to the love of her life and best friend, J. C. Roe, for seventy-nine wonderful years. Their marriage was a shining example of lasting love, loyalty, and partnership building a life together centered on family, faith, and unwavering support for one another.
She was the proud mother of two sons, Richard Roe (Cindy) of Jackson, TN and Ronnie Roe (Glena) of Dayton, TN, and the loving grandmother to Amber Davis (Alan) and Carrie Pledge (Thomas). Her legacy continues through her five great-grandchildren: Christopher, William, and Elijah Davis and Piper and Bailey Pledge, each of whom brought her endless joy and pride.
Family was the heart of her life. She found her greatest happiness in the company of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her home was always open, filled with warmth, love, and laughter. Whether she was cooking a favorite meal, sharing stories from the past, or simply sitting quietly with those she loved, her presence was a constant source of comfort and strength.
Her deep love and devotion to her family were unmatched, and she leaves behind a lifetime of beautiful memories and an unshakable example of kindness, patience and grace.
SERVICES: A graveside service to honor Mildred’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at Hollywood Cemetery with Rev. Steven Callicoatt officiating.
Mildred will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved her.
