Melvin Fay Moore, a cherished soul to many, passed away on Monday, September 15, in Jackson Tennessee. He was born on February 10, 1932 in North Madison County. His parents Marvin Fay Moore and Mimmie Florence Butler, his sister Ann Drake, preceded him in death.
Melvin’s life was a long and remarkable journey. Melvin answered the call of duty and served as a Corporal in the United States Army, beginning in 1947. He received the National Defense Service Medal during his service. When Melvin returned to civilian life he completed his education and graduated from
JB Young High School in 1951.
Melvin’s next chapter in life was a fruitful career with United States Steel. He resided there in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania until his well deserved retirement. Following this milestone, he returned back to Jackson.
Melvin was not just a man of work but a true artist at heart. He became an avid photographer of nature. He also had a great appreciation for art and drawings. Furthermore, Melvin loved classical music.
A graveside service to celebrate Melvin’s life will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 18, 2025, at Highland Memorial Gardens.
As we remember Melvin Moore, we honor a life well-lived. His spirt will continue to inspire those who knew him and he will remain in our hearts forever.
