Martha Johnston Brewer

Martha Johnston Brewer, born Martha Nell Johnston, was born September 5, 1926 to her parents Rada and Elmer Johnston. She grew up in the Harts Bridge community. After high school, she attended West Tennessee Business College. She was the oldest of six children.
Martha married Lee (Buddy) Brewer June 17,1950 and they moved to Memphis where they lived and loved for many years. Martha worked for various companies including Memphis State University and Memphis Light, Gas and Water. Martha and Buddy welcomed their daughter, Martha Elizabeth Brewer Dancy on December 17, 1954.
Martha was a charter member of Colonial Baptist Church in the Colonial Acres neighborhood and the family spent many happy years worshiping and serving there.
The couple returned to Jackson when Buddy retired in 1992. There they became involved in First Baptist Church where they both taught Sunday School classes.
Martha enjoyed many activities including gardening, painting, crafting and playing bridge. She had many
wonderful friends.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and four siblings. Her sister, Jennie Cooper, her brother Phillip Johnston, her sister Evelyn Merriwether and her brother Hershel Johnston. She is survived by her daughter, Beth and her sister Sue Ryan and a whole host of nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church of your choice, RIFA or a charity you support.
