Margie Mai Lester, 74, a beloved figure in her community and a cherished family member, peacefully passed away on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at the Christian Care Center of Medina. Born on January 17, 1951, in Jackson, Tennessee, Margie was a proud graduate of Jackson High School.
Margie’s career at Jackson State Community College earned her the affectionate title, “The Voice” of the institution, reflecting her dedication and the impact she had on students and colleagues throughout her professional life.
She was a notable presence in her career as well as a passionate member of Hillcrest Baptist Church, where she shared her love for teaching through Sunday School and brought joy to many as a member of the choir.
In her personal life, Margie’s spirit was defined by her love for adventure and connection. She loved to drive fast, and she cherished the time spent with her friends and family. Traveling was a joy she embraced, creating lasting memories along the way.
Margie is survived by her sons, Jeffrey Lester (Tori) and Jeremy Lester (Julia) both of Jackson TN; her grandchildren, Reed Lester, James Lester, Jonah Lester, Gavin Lester and Ava Grace Lester; her brother Edward Mays (Linda), and sisters Carolyn Alexander and Linda Knipper (Ken), along with her many nieces, nephews and her “greats.” She also leaves behind a legacy of love and warmth that will forever resonate in the hearts of all who knew her.
She was predeceased by her husband, Danny Lester, whom she married on March 20, 1976, and her parents, Joe and Lena Odell Mays. Margie’s memory will be honored by her family and friends, who will continue to share stories and reminiscences about her vibrant life. She will be deeply missed, yet her spirit will live on in the cherished memories of those she loved so dearly.
SERVICE: Visitation with family and friends will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 19, 2025, with a Funeral Service following at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Arrington Funeral Directors. A private graveside for family will follow.
