Marcel Covington Northcott Born February 16, 1940, to father Joseph Vaughn Covington and Mother Mamie J. Covington. Ms. Northcott passed away on July 4, 2026, at her home.
After the death of her parents, she and sister JoAnn Covington, were placed in Dunlap Orphanage in Tipton County, TN. She resided there until she married Fred Northcott Sr. Together, they had two sons, Fred Northcott Jr and Joseph Vaughn Northcott. Ms. Northcott also adored and loved her Granny, Lillie Belle Tate, of Covington, TN. Ms. Tate tried to adopt her and her sister, but she was unable to do so.
She leaves a son, Joseph V. Northcott, along with his three children Brandon Northcott, Aaron Northcott, Anna Birmingham (Fred). Six great grandchildren, Bristol, Colton, Frederick, Taelynn, Levi & Tucker also loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Northcott, Sr and her son, Fred Northcott, Jr. best friend and sister, JoAnn Covington Tims.
Ms. Northcott loved her little dogs, she called her "babies". She enjoyed her friends, especially "back in the day....". She loved flowers and would often buy them to give to others to enjoy, Marcel spent many early springs and summers at Sweetlips Greenhouse helping her niece Cindy, through her love for flowers her granddaughter Anna went on to become a floral designer and own a florist with her husband Fred. Mid-life she became an avid camper on the TN River where she made some of her best memories. She learned to bass fish, and she caught many a bass!! Marcel loved music and loved to dance! She could bring joy and laughter to everyone she met. As quoted from a family member, "you don't just meet Aunt Marcel, you experience her!!!!". She was known as the "Atmosphere Engineer". And boy could she turn some heads with her beautiful smile and long blond hair.
SERVICES: A time with family and friends will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Arrington Funeral Directors. A funeral service will follow on Friday, July 10, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers for the service will be Brandon Northcott, Aaron Northcott, Fred Birmingham, Coan Thomas, and Joe Northcott.
Honorary pallbearers will be Frederick Birmingham and Colton Blazer.
The family would like to thank the hospice team and express gratitude to her special friends Toni Douglas and Coan Thomas.
