Obituary

Lonnie Edward Bennett entered his eternal peace on December 27, 2025, in Jackson, Tennessee. Born on February 22, 1948, in the small town of Samburg, Tennessee.

Lonnie was the beloved son of Loyal Boyd Bennett and Edna Rebecca (Quillen) Bennett. He was raised alongside his brothers Harlan Bennett (Debbie) of Union City, TN, Bruce Bennett (Susie) of Hornbeak, TN and the late Larry Bennett (Theresa) of Hornbeak, TN. The Bennett brothers were known for their close-knit bond and the playful mischief of their youth, tales of which Lonnie later recounted with great fondness to his sons and grandchildren.

After graduating from Obion Central High School in 1966, Lonnie embarked on a career that would span over three decades. He began his journey at Reelfoot Packing Company in Union City, Tennessee, and later contributed his skills to the Milan Arsenal in Milan, Tennessee. However, it was his long tenure at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company in Union City, Tennessee that many will remember him for. His commitment to his work was unwavering, and he was respected by his colleagues for both his work ethic and his camaraderie.

A man of faith, Lonnie's Christian beliefs were the cornerstone of his life. He lived his beliefs through his actions, always ready to lend a helping hand and offer a kind word. His thoughtfulness and his ability to find humor in everyday situations brought light to those around him.

Lonnie's interests were as genuine as his smile. He was an avid motorcycle enthusiast, relishing the freedom of the open road. A sharpshooter at heart, he enjoyed the precision and skill of shooting guns. But above all, Lonnie loved his coffee, a warm cup serving as a constant companion through his many conversations and stories.

As a father, Lonnie was both a role model and a friend to his sons, Joseph "Joe" Bennett (Dawn) of Dyersburg, TN and David Bennett of New Orleans, LA. Granddaddy Lonnie, as he was affectionately known, was adored by his grandchildren, Brandon Bennett of Milan, TN, Brittany Sweatt (Troy) of Dyersburg, TN and Tommy Joe Bennett of Dyersburg, TN. He was a master storyteller, captivating them with tales of his youthful escapades with his brothers. The birth of his great-grandchild, Emmalee Grace Sweatt, added a new chapter of joy to his life.

A memorial service to honor his life will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at Antioch Baptist Church (512 Antioch Church Road, Hornbeak, TN 38232) with Pastor Chad Balentine (Pastor of Cornerstone Church of God in Dyersburg) officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

As we bid farewell to Lonnie Edward Bennett, his stories will continue to be told, his lessons passed down, and his memory forever etched in the hearts of those he loved. Lonnie's journey on earth has ended, but his spirit lives on, guiding us with the wisdom and love he shared so generously.
