Linda Kay Mayberry, born on August 23, 1947, in Jackson, TN, peacefully passed away in her home on May 28, 2025. Surrounded by her loving family, she departed this life after bravely confronting health challenges that had affected her for some time.
Linda dedicated many joyous years to working at East Union Daycare, a job she cherished deeply, and later at McCowat-Mercer, where her positive spirit brought smiles to those around her. Throughout her career, she embraced every moment with warmth and enthusiasm, leaving a lasting impact on the lives she touched.
Known for her engaging and friendly nature, Linda had a remarkable ability to make anyone feel welcomed. A testament to this was when a friend of her son Ted came by for a visit, only to find Ted absent. He ended up spending two hours engrossed in conversation with Linda, showcasing her love for storytelling and connection. Her home was a sanctuary for Ted and his friends, many of whom regarded Linda as a second mother, expressing that she provided the nurturing they sometimes lacked. She was a mother to Ted, his friends, niece’s, nephew’s, cousins, you name it. They have all called throughout the years to check on Ms. Linda.
Linda was a devoted Christian woman who found strength and solace in her faith. She attended First Assembly of God and Northside Assembly at different times, allowing her beliefs to shape the loving and compassionate person she was to everyone around her. Her commitment to family was unwavering; she was a pillar of support and affection for her son Ted, who lost his father at a tender age of 12. Despite her challenging circumstances, she never remarried, choosing instead to focus on cultivating a loving environment for Ted and his friends.
As much as she cherished her son, Linda's heart blossomed even more with the arrival of her grandchildren, Jake and Audrey, who were her pride and joy. She often said they were her heart, illuminating her life in ways words cannot fully capture. In addition to her deep love for family and friends, Linda had a passion for reading and an appreciation for history, particularly local history. Her life was one filled with stories, memories, and experiences that she generously shared with those fortunate enough to know her.
Left to cherish her memory is her son, Ted Mayberry (Laura), grandchildren, Jake Mayberry and Audrey Thomas; brothers, Louis Jordan (Glenda) and Eddy Jordan (Julia); sisters, Charlotte Legg (Tom) and Tammie Criss (Randy); and uncle, Ivy Jordan. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Johnny Louis Mayberry, whom she married on December 31, 1966, and loved every second until his death. Aside from her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Walter “Louis” and Eunice Jordan; and sister, Brenda Brady.
A funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, June 1, 2025, in the chapel of Arrington Funeral Directors with a visitation from 1:00-3:00 p.m. prior. The burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Bishop JP Stovall will officiate.
Pallbearers include: Jeff Rowland, Ronald Rowland, Walter Rowland, Trevor Schrupp, John Stovall, Bradley Warren, and Dusty Warren.
Her memory will forever remain in the hearts of those she loved and who loved her. Linda Kay Mayberry will be profoundly missed but fondly remembered for her generous spirit and the immense love she shared throughout her life.
