Kathryn Pirtle Curlin, known fondly as Kathy, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 14, 2025, at the age of 82, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital in Jackson, Tennessee. Born on October 26, 1942, in Bemis, TN, Kathy was a beloved member of her community and a cherished part of her family.
A proud 1960 graduate of South Side High School, Kathy was actively involved in music and theater during her school years, showcasing her vibrant personality and love for the arts.
A talented alto who loved to sing, Kathy was a member of West Jackson Baptist Church Choir for many years, sharing her love of music and community with those around her. Described as one of a kind, Kathy thrived on conversation and connection, whether in person or over the phone. Keeping up with her family was of utmost importance to her; and her engaging spirit made her a treasured friend to many.
Her late husband Glenn’s career moved the family from Tennessee to Texas in 1974; with additional moves through Missouri, Florida and Alabama in the years following. Upon retirement, the couple retired back home to Jackson, to be closer to family. Kathy's professional journey saw her excel as an Executive Assistant to the President or CEO for several different companies, including Dickens & Challen of Jackson, Jackson State Bank, and Dresser Industries in Houston. Her organizational skills and dedication were evident in all her endeavors.
Later in life, she found joy on the golf course in Florida, becoming a skilled player and a beloved member of the lady's golf league. Kathy was also well known for her peanut brittle and pecan pies, often satisfying the sweet tooth of numerous family and friends. She took great pleasure in gathering loved ones around the table, crafting large meals that made family visits special.
Kathy is survived by her devoted sons, Robert Curlin (Andrew Boks) of Jackson, TN, and Richard Curlin (Louann) of Hendersonville, TN. “Nonnie” also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren: Sarah Kathryn Forrest (Kirk), and Robert Taylor Curlin (fiancé Annie Chabak). Additionally, she will be deeply missed by her sisters-in-law, Carol Mathis of Germantown, TN, Joanne Curlin of Jackson, TN, and Betty Curlin of Lebanon, TN, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Just two weeks ago, Kathy’s loving husband and soulmate of 65 years, Glenn P. Curlin, preceded her in death. Her parents, Orien Curry and Mary Emma Watkins Pirtle of Bemis also predeceased her, along with her sister, Jolena Fisher.
A funeral service to honor Kathy’s life will be held on Thursday, July 17, 2025, at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel at Arrington Funeral Directors. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until the service begins. Burial will follow at Woodland Cemetery in Brownsville, TN.
Her legacy lives on through the stories she told, the crafts she created, and the memories she shared with those who were fortunate enough to know her. Kathy will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all whose lives she touched.
