Obituary

Mary Joyce Brumley Childress, a beacon of love and generosity, completed her earthly journey on December 21, 2025, at the age of 82. Born on October 5, 1943, in Jackson, Tennessee, Joyce's life was a testament to her unwavering faith and her profound love for her family and community.

A proud 1961 graduate of Northside High School, Joyce's passion for learning and personal growth was a defining trait throughout her life. Her dedication to serving others was evident through her career as a receptionist in the home health division at Jackson Madison Co. General Hospital, from which she retired after years of committed service. Joyce's warmth and kindness were the cornerstones of her work, leaving a lasting impact on all who passed through the hospital doors.

Joyce's Christian faith was the guiding light in her life, and she lived each day with a heart full of gratitude and grace. Her involvement in church activities at Mt. Carmel Methodist Church and her constant efforts to help those in need were a reflection of her deep commitment to her beliefs.

A woman of many interests, Joyce found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was an avid crocheter and jewelry maker, often sharing her creations with friends and family. Joyce's hands were rarely still, always busy with projects that brought beauty into the world. Her tireless work at RIFA, a local charity, was another avenue through which she expressed her innate desire to assist others.

Not one to shy away from hard work, Joyce could often be spotted driving a tractor and bushhog, meticulously maintaining her yard with the same attention to detail that she applied to every aspect of her life. Her love for growing tomatoes was matched only by her enthusiasm for sports, which she enjoyed watching on television whenever she had the chance.

Family was the cornerstone of Joyce's world. She is survived by her devoted son, Brian Childress, and his wife, Melissa, who will forever cherish the memory of a mother whose life was a living example of love, faith, and generosity and a precious grandson Brayden Childress. She is also survived by her sister, Diane Melton and husband Charles. Joyce's legacy is one that will continue to inspire and guide her loved ones for generations to come.

Along with her parents Frank and Eileen Brumley, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ira Childress and her special son Todd Childress. She was also preceded by great aunt and uncle Bob and Mary Anna White.

Robert Caldwell and Rev. Mark McCaslin officiating. Burial will follow in Oakfield Cemetery.

Words such as loving, faith-filled, and generous only begin to describe Joyce. Her life was a beautiful tapestry woven with the threads of kindness, selflessness, and an unwavering commitment to her values. She will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her, yet her spirit will live on in the countless lives she touched with her gentle presence.

As we say farewell to Joyce, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a journey completed with grace. Her memory will forever be a source of comfort and strength to those who loved her. May she rest in peace, secure in the knowledge that her life was a true reflection of the virtues she held dear.
