John Steven Scott, age 82, of Jackson, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, July 15, 2025. Born in Nashville, Tennessee, on November 14, 1942, Steve lived a life marked by deep faith, love for family, and service to others.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Diane Scott; his children, John Scott (DeeAnn), David Scott (Stacey), and Beth Scott Nuthak (Chris); and his cherished grandchildren: Meaghan Scott, Caleb Nuthak, Corban Scott, Ian Scott, Jonah Nuthak, Josh Dickerson, Jacob Scott, Andrew Nuthak, Ethan Scott, Liam Scott, Joshua Scott, Nathan Nuthak, and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his beloved sister, Velda Harvill.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Horace and Ann Scott.
Though Steve held many jobs throughout his life, his true calling and greatest mission was ministry—especially youth ministry. He poured his heart into nurturing and guiding young people, helping shape countless lives with his wisdom, humor, humility, and unwavering faith.
His greatest joys were found in his relationship with God, the love of his life Diane, his children, and his grandchildren. Steve also found peace and purpose in his hobbies, especially beekeeping, which reflected his quiet dedication and care for God’s creation.
SERVICES: A celebration of Steve’s life will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at Campbell Street Church of Christ in Jackson, TN. Visitation with family and friends will be from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 1:30 p.m. The graveside service will follow at Ridgecrest Cemetery.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or online www.stjude.org, or to the Nicaragua Christian School at www.nicaraguachristian.org in Steve’s memory.
