John Armstrong Laughinghouse, Jr., age 89, peacefully passed away on Thursday, April 14 ,2022 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. John was born on Thursday, June 2, 1932, in Vanceboro, NC to the late John Armstrong, Sr. and Margaret (Wayne) Laughinghouse. Other than his parents he is preceded in death by his life partner, Carol and their son, Michael Laughinghouse. As a determined young man who loved his country, John enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country with great pride and integrity. After being honorably discharged of his duties with the United States Navy September 2, 1959, John exercised many of his life skills to provide a life for himself and his family. He spent a short time as a grave digger after leaving the Navy, but his most enjoyed work was the time he spent employed at Alcan Aluminum Corporation. John spent almost 50 years married to the love of his life and the mother of his children, Carol. John especially loved time spent with his family. He enjoyed gathering with his children and grandchildren reminiscing and making new memories. With the determination of a lion and the demeanor of a lamb, John was a friend to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He was a kind man who loved listening to old country music and watching old westerns, hunting, fishing, and a good days work in his garden made him happiest. John will be loved and never forgotten by son, David Laughinghouse and wife, Ashley and daughter, Dorene Laughinghouse all of Jackson, TN; brothers, Sam Laughinghouse and Gene Laughinghouse of North Carolina; sisters, Mary Trohalis and Brenda Chelso of Connecticut; grandchildren, Eric, Kyle, and Tiffany; 3 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild as well as many friends and neighbors who mourn his passing. A funeral service will be Monday, April 25, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel at Arrington Funeral Directors with burial to follow in Highland Memorial Gardens.
