Obituary

Dicky Day, age 81, passed away June 16, 2014 at Forest Cove Manor. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 20, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Arrington Funeral Directors with Dr. Hoyt Wilson officiating. Visitation will be Thursday June 19 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Dicky was born in Jackson, TN to the late O.B. and Leora Engels Day on May 25, 1933. He was a 1951 graduate of Jackson High School. He began his telephone career in April 1952 with South Central Bell in Jackson. He was transferred to Memphis, TN in 1957 and returned to Jackson, TN in 1974. He retired from AT&T in 1985. He continued in Telecommunications with his son, Bobby Day, in Lexington, TN working as Daycom Telecommunications until 1998 returning to Jackson in 2003. He was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church in Parsons, TN serving in many ways. He was a volunteer fireman with Jeanette Vol Fire Station. He was a lifetime supporter of the Tennessee Volunteers and Nascar Racing. He was a loving and devoted husband to his wife Ernestine Stegall Day for 62 years. He leaves to cherish his memory 5 children, Traci Day Wallis (Harold) of Sewanee, GA, Susan Lea Day of Jackson, TN, Amy Day Smith (Dr. Lane) of Benton, AR, Rick Day (Diane) of Collierville, TN, Bobby Day (Margaret) of Lexington, TN. He leaves 13 Grandchildren and 10 Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Bernard E. Day of Jackson, TN. Pallbearers to serve will be: David Day Dettlebach, Robert Day, Richard Day, Nathan Smith, Harold Wallis and Dr. Lane Smith. Arrington Funeral Directors 148 W.
