John Michael "Mike"
Britt
January 30, 1948 – March 26, 2026
John Michael "Mike" Britt, 78, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. He was born in Jackson in 1948 and grew up in several West Tennessee communities including Life, Saltillo, Bradford, and Friendship where his father served for many years as a Methodist minister.
Following graduation from North Side High School in 1966, Mike attended Lambuth College and then proudly served his country during the Vietnam conflict as a sailor aboard the USS Charles F. Adams. As the mail clerk on the ship, when he was asked if he was ever in any danger, he would reply that the only danger he faced was from the sailors who didn't receive mail from home. After completing his military service in the Navy, Mike returned to Lambuth from 1969-1972, graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree. While at Lambuth, Mike met and married his wife of 54 years, Sandra Stauffer Britt. Mike was a member of Northside Church.
When describing someone "who never met a stranger" that description definitely fit Mike. His sweet smile and kind demeanor made everyone feel at ease. These traits led to a successful thirty-seven-year career as a sales representative for Orgill Brothers in Collierville, TN. Those workday mornings and retirements days always started at Latham's where he had breakfast with his coffee buddies.
When not at work, Mike was definitely a family man who doted on his children and grandchildren. He was often seen with at least one of the grandchildren and a fishing pole in hand at the lake behind his house. He also loved riding with the grandkids in the golf cart along with the family dog throughout the neighborhood along with the family dog, and he enjoyed watching all sports on television, especially the Tennessee Vols. If there was not a good game to watch on television, he could usually be found in his chair outside by the garage door, talking to or waving at all the neighbors. Everybody loved Mike.
Mike is survived by his wife, Sandra, his daughter, Holly Britt Knight and her husband, Cameron, and his four precious grandchildren, Britt Knight, Laurel Knight, Wells Knight, and Campbell Knight. He was preceded in death by his son, Brian Michael Britt, and by his parents, Reverend John R Britt and Jane Britt.
