Joel Franklin Rushing, a beloved husband, father, brother, and grandfather, passed away peacefully at his home in Jackson, Tennessee, on July 14, 2026. He was 74 years old. Joel entered into eternal rest surrounded by the love and presence of his family, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, steadfastness, and enduring devotion.
Born on October 1, 1951, in Jackson, Tennessee, Joel was the cherished son of the late James Errol Rushing and Josephine Williams Rushing. Rooted in his hometown throughout his life, Joel's commitment to family and community was evident to all who knew him.
He was a graduate of Northside High School, where he was a distinguished athlete, receiving many accolades and awards. He continued his education, receiving a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Tennessee. He spent his career in the Aluminum Industry, holding various management positions throughout his career at various locations, locally at the former Consolidated Aluminum. He was active in his church community as a member of Browns Methodist Church holding various leadership positions over the years.
Joel shared companionship with his wife, Diane Rushing. He was a loving father to his daughter, Lori Farrow, and her husband Judson. He also embraced his extended family through his stepson, Jake Warren and his wife Danielle, stepdaughter, Leah Gilliam, and husband Justin, all of whom he supported with warmth and generosity. Joel's sibling bond with his brother, Andy Rushing and his wife Susan was deep, grounded in years of shared memories and support. Joel’s nurturing spirit shone brightest in his role as a grandfather. He took immense pride and joy in his grandchildren, who affectionately referred to him as Pajo: Kylin Carmack, Kate Farrow, Harper Warren, Eden Warren, and Benjamin Gilliam. For them, he was not only a source of wisdom and guidance but also a constant reminder of the importance of family.
SERVICES: A memorial gathering to honor the life of Joel Franklin Rushing will be held on Sunday, July 19, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall at Browns Methodist Church, located at 181 McLeary Road, Jackson, TN 38305. A memorial service will follow in the Sanctuary of the church at 5:00 p.m. Family and friends are invited to join in remembrance and celebration of Joel’s remarkable life.
