James E. Hubbell, a devoted family man, skilled electrician, and cherished member of his community, peacefully entered his heavenly home on May 31, 2026, at his residence in Jackson, Tennessee, surrounded by his loved ones.
Born on December 14, 1930, in Jackson, TN, the son of the late Thomas Jefferson and Mary Verde Gray Hubbell, James’s life was marked by dedication, service, and kindness, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew him.
A proud graduate of Jackson High School, James pursued his passion for electrical work by earning his journeyman electrician certification. He built a respected career as an electrician with the ICG Railroad, demonstrating not only technical skill but also unwavering commitment. His contributions extended beyond his profession, reflecting a lifetime of service and care.
James was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, serving with honor from 1951 through 1954. His time in the Navy shaped his character and instilled in him a profound sense of duty and loyalty that he carried throughout his life.
Kind and welcoming, James had a great sense of humor and a natural ability to make others feel at ease. He was a beloved member of Northside Church in Jackson, where he devoted many years to various active roles and missions, further underscoring his generous spirit. His passion for giving back included participating in Habitat for Humanity projects, reflecting his commitment to helping others in tangible ways.
His hobbies spoke about his creativity and meticulous nature: from crafting model airplanes to being a self-taught carpenter, James also took great pride in maintaining his yard, tending it with care and attention. One of his most treasured memories was traveling with his wife and family on tent camping adventures across the country, creating bonds and stories that his family holds dear.
Above all, James’s proudest accomplishments were his family and providing for them with unwavering love and support. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Betty Faye Hubbell in 2015 along with three brothers and one sister.
He is survived by a loving circle of family including Tena McGaughey and husband Eddie of Milan, TN; Jullie Amanda Hubbell of Jackson, TN; Scott E. Hubbell and wife Amy of Three-Way, TN; Holly Mitchener and husband Steve of Lakeland, TN; as well as eleven grandchildren Matthew Britt and wife Jess, Matthew Britt and wife Amanda, Canaan Sims and Elia Sims, Erin McMurry and husband Jake and Hannah Hubbell, Maggie Jackson, Teri Anna Bray and husband Graham, Nathan Mitchener, and wife Cindy, Matt Mitchener and wife Willow and Sarah Mitchener and sixteen great-grandchildren, Asher Britt, Kinsey Britt, Kendall Britt, Harrison Britt, Ava Carter, Addy Carter, Dalton Sims, McKarley Haley, Blakely Sims, Peyton Adams, Greyson Sims, Tristan McMurry, James Daniel, Henley Hubbell, Gavin Mitchener and Collen Mitchener.
Friends and family are invited to honor and remember James during a visitation with family from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. on June 4, 2026, at Northside Church, with Rev. Daphene Moses officiating. Burial will follow at Hopewell Cemetery in Medina.

James E. Hubbell’s life was one of steadfast devotion, gentle humor, and meaningful contributions.
