Harvey Penwell

Harvey Penwell, born on May 8, 1934, in El Reno, Oklahoma, passed away on April 30, 2025, in Jackson, Tennessee, leaving behind a legacy of service, dedication, and compassion. He was a man deeply involved in his community, known for his steadfast commitment to helping others throughout his life.

Harvey dedicated the majority of his career as a hospital administrator, where his leadership and vision positively impacted countless lives. Following his retirement, he pursued his passion for health and wellness. He received certification and embarked on a new chapter as a fitness trainer and masseuse, further showcasing his dedication to improving the well-being of those around him.

An alumnus of Washington University, Harvey obtained a Master’s Degree, a reflection of his commitment to education and personal growth. His thirst for knowledge and betterment extended beyond his professional life. During his military service, he honorably served in the Korean War as a member of the United States Air Force, a testament to his bravery and dedication to his country.

He is survived by his three beloved children: Harvey Eugene Penwell, Jr., Lee Jennings Penwell, and Wynne (Shawn) Tubbs. He is also servived by three grandchildren: Kelsey Tubbs, Caleb Tubbs, and Noah Tubbs and two precious great grandchildren: Harper Tubbs and Camden Tubbs. They carry forward his legacy of strength, kindness, and community service.

Harvey was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Ethelwynne Penwell.  Also, he was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Jesse Penwell and by his siblings, Homer Penwell, Jerry Penwell, and Mary Helen Penwell, all of whom he held dear in his heart. His family would like to express their sincere gratitude to his team of caregivers and Gentiva Healthcare for their unwavering support during his final days.

As we remember Harvey Penwell, we celebrate a life well-lived, marked by compassion, service, and love for family and community. His spirit will be missed by all who knew him.
