With heavy hearts, we announce the unexpected passing of Gregory Hunt Mitchell on Tuesday, January 27, 2026. Gregory, or "Greg" to his friends and family, was born Saturday, September 9, 1972, in Jackson, TN the son of Don and the late Linda (Hunt) Mitchell.
Greg was a 1990 graduate of South Side High School. He attended Freed – Hardeman University and David Lipscomb University.
Greg's life was marked by his passion for baseball, and the strong bonds he forged with his teammates and community. He excelled in 13 – 15-year-old Babe Ruth league at Pope Park, hitting three home runs in one game. Greg continued pursuing his love for the game and sports throughout his younger years.
Greg was a man of faith, steadfast in his Christian beliefs. His warmth and kindness touched all who knew him. Greg's professional life was characterized by his passion for helping others. He was employed with American Motors of Jackson, Tn, where he developed a strong rapport with employees and the customers of which he served.
Left to cherish his memory are his dad, Don Mitchell (Nancy); his brother, Donnie Mitchell; aunts, Gale Hunt Fulton (Dell), Sandra Mitchell Bailey (Calvin); niece, Hailey Lynn Cunningham and special friend Jessica Hammons. He is also survived by many adoring cousins.
Greg was preceded in death by his loving wife, Kristin (Russow) Mitchell; his mother, Linda (Hunt) Mitchell; aunt, Emily Mitchell Crabtree (Steve) and grandparents, Joe and Grace Hunt, Clarence and Janey Mitchell.
A private entombment service will be held Saturday, January 31, 2026, in the Mausoleum at Highland Memorial Gardens.
As we reflect on Greg's life, we celebrate a life well-lived. He valued kindness, generosity and the small moments that made life meaningful. Greg touched all our lives, and with this deep loss, we are reminded to treasure the moments we have today.
