Georgia T.
Hillhouse
November 3, 1929 – January 22, 2026
Georgia Hillhouse, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away peacefully surrounded by family in the early hours of Thursday, January 22, 2026, at Jackson-Madison County Hospital, leaving behind a legacy of love, devotion, and unwavering faith.
One of seven children, she was born on Sunday, November 3, 1929, in Cloverport, TN, to Lacy and Cercie Willoughby Thornton. Georgia graced this world for 96 years, a true firecracker filled with sass and fun, who possessed an unfiltered candidness that endeared her to everyone she encountered.
At the young age of 19, Georgia encountered a tall, handsome young man named John Hillhouse at the County Fair, who she married on Saturday, October 2, 1948. They spent 74 wonderful years together, with a love so strong that they were rarely seen apart, often holding hands and spending afternoons together swinging under a tree.
For over 20 years, Georgia dedicated her life to nursing as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital, and later through private in-home nursing. To Georgia, nursing was not just a job; it was a calling that she dedicated herself to with helping others.
Georgia found joy in crocheting, gardening both flowers and vegetables, and supporting the Atlanta Braves. Known for her wonderful cooking she instilled foods and traditions that brought her family together. Sundays were particularly special to her, as she taught her family the importance of rest and quality time spent together. She and her husband John, who passed away in 2023, loved to dance to Country Western tunes, and are now dancing together again down the streets of gold.
A woman of deep faith, she was a true example of a Christian lady steadfast in her beliefs and dedicated to sharing that faith with others. She read and studied her Bible every day, always selfless, caring, and willing to help others.
Georgia leaves behind a loving family who carries her spirit forward—her cherished daughters, Debbie Simpson and her husband Barry of Jackson, TN, and Lisa Decker
and her husband Brian of Jackson, TN. She was a proud Mamaw to her grandchildren: Jeff Ragan (Christie), Brent Simpson (Sarah), Lauren Voorhees (Eric), Morgan Decker, and Madison Decker (fiancé Levi Tyler), along with her great-grandchildren: Taylor, Chandler, and Kaley Ragan, Jaxon and Lila Kate Voorhees, and Barrett and Ivy Simpson, who will all carry forward her love and teachings.
She was preceded in death by her devoted husband John Hillhouse, as well as two brothers, four sisters, and great-granddaughter, Karah Elizabeth Osborne.
A funeral service to celebrate Georgia's life will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, February 2, 2026, in the chapel of Arrington Funeral Directors. The family will receive friends from 11:00-1:00 p.m. prior to the service.
Entombment will be at the Mausoleum at Highland Memorial Gardens next to her beloved, John.
Pallbearers to service are Barry Simpson, Brian Decker, Jeff Ragan, Brent Simpson, Levi Tyler, Eric Voorhees, Jaxon Voorhees, and Barrett Simpson. Honorary Pallbearers are Taylor Ragan and Chandler Ragan.
The family requests that any memorial donations be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105 or online at www.stjude.org
The impact Georgia Hillhouse made during her lifetime is evident through the countless memories she created with her loved ones. Her memory remains a testament to the power of love, faith, and family.
Her children arise and call her blessed.
