Gary Ward Woolfolk, age 81, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at Wellington Manor in Jackson, Tennessee.
He was born on Friday, March 31, 1944, in Jackson, the son of the late William Ward and Ella Kathryn Waynick Woolfolk.
Garys educational journey led him to receive a Bachelor of Science from Lambuth University, formerly known as Lambuth College, and another Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from the University of Tennessee at Martin. His professional life was dedicated to serving as a Chemist with the Tennessee Department of Agriculture, where he made meaningful contributions to his field.
Beyond his career, Gary was known for his outgoing and down-to-earth personality. He truly never met a stranger, and his warm spirit touched the lives of many who had the pleasure of knowing him. His adventurous nature took him all around the world where he embraced a multitude of experiences.
Gary had a passion for the outdoors and was a proud member of the Nashville Ski Club and a long- time member of the Camp Woodlee Alumni. He loved sailing, snow skiing and boating, activities that brought him boundless joy and fellowship. Furthermore, he was an avid fan of University of Tennessee sports, proudly cheering on his Volunteer teams as a dedicated supporter.
He is survived by his beloved brothers, Johnny Woolfolk and his wife Pat of Jackson, TN, and Robert Lee Woolfolk and his wife Nancy of Murfreesboro, TN. He also leaves behind nieces and nephews, including Scott Woolfolk (Cher), Amy Adkerson (Jeff), Matt Woolfolk (Erika), Megan Lee Leonard (Fergal), and Shannon Woolfolk, along with six cherished great nieces and nephews.
SERVICES: A funeral to celebrate Gary's Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at Mount Carmel Methodist Church with Rev. Mark McCaslin and Rev. Jessie Long officiating. Burial will follow at Browns Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during the visitation at Mount Carmel Methodist Church, located at 3259 Highway 70 East, Jackson, TN 38305, on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, beginning at 12:00 p.m. and continuing until 2:00 p.m., followed by the funeral service.
Gary Ward Woolfolks legacy of warmth, adventure, and dedication to both family and profession will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Garys family would like to extend their sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff of Wellington Memory Care, because the love and care which they provided made Garys life full to the last day.
