Obituary

Fred E. Hawkins, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and faithful friend of many passed away March 19, 2014. Fred was born June 23, 1918 in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. His parents were Clarence Lee Hawkins and Eva Lena Brown Hawkins. Fred worked for 41 years until the age of 71 for the RECC in Elizabethtown as a lineman, foreman and then line superintendent. He coached Babe Ruth baseball for 17 years and was the Treasurer for Boy Scout Troop 130 for 12 years. Fred was a Kentucky Colonel and a Army Veteran of World War II spending over a year in the Philippine Islands. After retirement Fred enjoyed taking care of his beautiful home and lawn on Ford Highway. He was a member of Severns Valley Baptist Church. Fred was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Bernice Hawkins and his siblings Vivian Lee Arthur, Clarence Hawkins, Mag Burnett, Carl Hawkins, Harry Hawkins, William Hawkins, Russell "Rach" Hawkins and Randle "Buddy" Hawkins. He is survived by his sons, Fred "Sonny" Hawkins and wife Kitty, Jack Hawkins and wife Jean. Three grandchildren, Kristy White and her husband Tony, David Hawkins, Elizabeth Hawkins Boatwright and her husband Trey, five great-grandchildren, Chloe and Carly White, Molly, Macey and Max Boatwright. He is also survived by one sister, Helena Crady. Fred was a loving husband, taking care of his beloved wife, Bernice for many years. Fred will be remembered for his kindness, strong character, willingness to help others and humility. SERVICES: Funeral service will be 11:00 AM Monday March 24, 2014 at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown, KY. Visitation will be Sunday from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Brown Funeral Home.
