Elaine Maner Pritchard

January 17, 1945 — July 15, 2023

Jackson

Elaine Pritchard started her great new adventure by passing peacefully on July 15, 2023, in Jackson, Tennessee. She was born in Cullman, Alabama, the daughter of the late Joseph and Marie Maner. She is survived by her husband, Dudley Pritchard, of Jackson, TN; her sons and daughters-in-law, Scot and Karin Ward, of Horton, MI, and Ross and Danielle Ward, of Urbana IL; stepchildren, Megan and Luke Stafford; grandchildren Virginia Ward, Dagny Ward, Jack Stafford, and Sutton Stafford, and brothers and sisters-in-law Meredith and Kathy Maner, and Vann and Connie Maner.

While still in high school, Elaine was a member of the backup vocal group for Enos Ray and the Royal J’s. You may still hear the band on YouTube singing Moon Talk. Elaine spent many years in the world’s finest profession, teaching, in Alabama and Tennessee. Her escape from teaching was tennis, a lot of tennis, as she was a very good tennis player. She was gifted in many creative ways, being a precise needle pointer and seamstress. After retirement, Elaine began to study painting, taking classes in Jackson and Memphis. Her hobby soon became her passion, and she became a prolific artist, so talented that she had a gallery showing at The Ned in Jackson last November.

Elaine moved to Jackson in 2001, and she and Dudley loved to travel to new places and experience new activities. After they married, they initially enjoyed annual trips to Austria, where she matched hiking strides with a lively group of British and German couples who had become their friends. She was always finding someplace to go for a hike or a walk, often outdistancing her younger companions. Elaine was also an avid gardener and active member of her garden club.

Her easy-going personality made her the perfect companion for any outing or event.

In a particularly cunning move, she tricked Dudley into adopting their puppy, JR, who quickly wiggled his way into the hearts of both Dudley and Elaine. In the last few years, JR was Elaine’s constant companion, always either by her side or on her lap.
