Dr. Pelagia "Pely" Bayani Sioson, a cherished matriarch, esteemed physician, and pillar of the community, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loved ones on February 6, 2026, in Jackson, Tennessee at the age of 96 years old. Born on May 4, 1929, in Manila, Philippines, Pely lived a remarkable life marked by dedication, compassion, and a relentless pursuit of excellence.
Pely's journey began in the heart of Manila, where her early years were filled with the warmth of a close-knit family and the vibrancy of Filipino culture. Her intelligence and determination led her to pursue a career in medicine, a field where her passion for helping others could flourish. She specialized in genetics and practiced as a pediatrician, and she educated the next generation of physicians as a professor of medicine at her alma mater, the University of the Philippines. Dr. Sioson's medical career was distinguished by her unwavering commitment to her patients and her contributions to the medical community. Her legacy as a physician is one of boundless empathy and unparalleled professionalism.
Throughout her life, Dr. Sioson was surrounded by love and support from her devoted family. She was a loving wife to the late Dr. Conrado Sioson, Sr., and raised a family of successful and compassionate individuals who inherited their parents' dedication to service. Her children - Dr. Priscilla Sioson-Aherrera and her husband David Aherrera, the late Dr. Pauline "Leny" Sioson-Reyes and her husband Dr. Jami Reyes, Dr. Patricia "Bebong" Sioson-Maser, Dr. Conrado "Juju" Sioson, Jr. and his wife Dr. Maryanne Rodriguez Sioson, and Pamela Salazar, RN - each carved their own paths, guided by the values instilled in them by their mother.
Dr. Sioson was a beacon of wisdom and inspiration to her grandchildren, Dr. Jeanine Reyes-Bautista and her husband Gian Bautista, Jonathan Reyes, Dr. Pauline "Hannah" Aherrera, Patrick Aherrera, Nicole Sioson, PA-C, Miguel Sioson, RN, SRNA, and Max Maser, MS1. As their "Lola," she reveled in their achievements and was a constant source of encouragement. Her great-grandchildren, Braxton Gianpaulo "Gio" Bautista and Brooklyn Raeanne Bautista, brought her immeasurable joy. She, as their loving "Lelang", took pride in watching the beginnings of another generation of promise and potential.
SERVICES: A time with family and friends will be held on Tuesday, February 10, 2026 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. and again on Wednesday, February 11, also from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Arrington Funeral Directors. A visitation will also be on Thursday, February 12, 2026 from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. with a Rosary to be held at 10:30 a.m. and Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 1665 Highway 45 Bypass, Jackson, TN 38305. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
