Downing's journey through life was marked by numerous accomplishments, among which he held his family dearest. He was an outstanding athlete during his school years, attending South Side Junior and Senior High, where he shone as a quarterback and received several awards. His passion for sports mirrored his love for the outdoors, as he enjoyed bass fishing, hunting rabbits and quail, and spending time by the river.
Downing was a faithful christian as faith played an essential role in his life, guiding him in his relationships and interactions with others. He is survived by his beloved wife, Teresa Griffin Cain; his son, Ethan Cain and his wife Jillian and their children Brooke and Heath Cain; his daughter, Brittni Wells, and her husband James and their children Remi and Raelee Wells; and his siblings: Gene Cain and his wife, Janet; John Cain and his wife, Lucee; and Jenny Jones and her husband Billy. He was also a special friend to John Cates, his fishing buddy and best friend, as well as numerous nieces and nephews who cherished their time with him.
Downing was preceded in death by his loving parents, Gene and Mary Lou Cain, whose influence shaped him into the compassionate and dedicated person he became. His memory will forever be etched in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know him. As family and friends remember Downing, they will carry forward the values he exemplified and the love he shared, celebrating the life of a remarkable man who left a lasting impact on those around him.
