Obituary

Dot Arnold Carlock, lovingly known as "Mama Dot" to her grandchildren, friends and all who adored her, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 24, surrounded by her family in the comfort of her home. She went joyfully to be with her Savior, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a life lived to the fullest.

Born on September 30, 1924, in Verona, Mississippi, Dot was the daughter of C. Y. Arnold and Etta Francis Arnold. She was raised in Verona and graduated from high school in 1942, earning the title of Miss Verona along the way.

Soon after high school, she met her first husband, Wayne Lemons, with whom she had two sons, Wayne Lemons (Bubba) and David Lemons. After Wayne's passing, Dot later met and married Grover Carlock, and together they had one son, Grover "Clay" Carlock.

In 1967, Dot and Grover moved from Tupelo, Mississippi, to Blytheville, Arkansas, where they opened a new Pontiac automobile dealership. Over the years, they added additional franchises in Blytheville, with Dot working in the accounting office and becoming an essential presence at the dealerships.

Mama Dot truly loved life, especially when it involved her family and friends. She loved working, traveling, dancing, and sharing a little toddy with Grover. She never met a stranger and loved meeting new people, whether it be at the dealership, church, or the country club.

In 2000, Dot and Grover moved to Jackson, Tennessee, to be involved with their son at Carlock Nissan. She loved coming to work, answering the phone, and greeting every person who walked through the front doors. At home, she treasured time on her back porch enjoying wine with friends and family. She would also proudly drive herself to go get a good cheeseburger and milkshake up until the age of 96.

Of all the joys in her life, none compared to cheering on her children and grandchildren at their sporting events. She attended countless football, baseball, basketball, and soccer games—especially at USJ, where so many of her grandchildren played. Her presence became a tradition of its own. All the players, students, and parents knew when Mama Dot arrived, greeting her with warmth, smiles, and shouts of "Mama Dot!" from the stands.

Dot was a longtime member of United Northside Methodist Church, where her faith was a constant source of strength and joy in her life. Her church family held a special place in her heart, and those relationships were very dear to her throughout her life.

Mama Dot lived a remarkable 101 years filled with grace, joy, humor, and an unwavering love for her family. She touched every life she encountered and leaves behind memories that will continue to bring warmth and smiles for generations to come. Her spirit, her kindness, and her love for life will forever be cherished.

Dot was preceded in death by her parents; her second husband, Grover Carlock; her brothers, Jimmy Arnold, Roy Arnold, and Guy Arnold; and her sisters, Vassar Ballard and Lucille Brannon. She is survived by her three sons, C. Wayne Lemons, David A. Lemons (Annjo), and Grover C. Carlock Jr. (Rachel). Dot was the proud grandmother of Kellie Dickey (Lynn), Ashlie Ardoin (Eric), Shea Berault (Dave), Brian Lemons (Julie), Trace Carlock (MK), Campbell Carlock, Wesley Carlock, and Mia Powers, and she adored her great-grandchildren—Lexie, Ella, Vivian, Gabe, Joe, Henry, Luke, Emily, Abbey, and Grove—each of whom brought her tremendous joy. She was also blessed to know and love her great-great-grandchildren, Nash and Campbell, who added a special brightness to her later years. The family would also like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to her devoted caretakers, Edna and Peggy, for the love and care they showed Dot.
