Dorothy Carlton Ryan, 90, died on Monday, October 6, 2014 at the Maplewood Healthcare Center of Jackson. A native of Nashville, TN, Dorothy was born on March 6, 1924, the daughter of the late Horace E. and Mattie Baker Carlton and was a graduate of Cohn High School in Nashville, TN. She was married to Oscar Davis Ryan, Jr. who preceded her in death on September 19, 2009. Dorothy, a homemaker, enjoyed crocheting, knitting and playing cards with friends. She also enjoyed flowers especially Iris. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the love of her life and she loved spending time with them. She was a member of the Forest Street United Methodist Church in Clarksville, TN. She was preceded in death by husband, four brothers, Edward Carlton, Tom Carlton, J.C. Carlton and Percy Carlton and three sisters, Serena Blair, Velma McAdams and Blanche Jones. She is survived by her son, Oscar "Buddy" Davis Ryan III and his wife Brenda of Jackson, TN two grandchildren. Davis Ryan and wife Robyn and Michele Terry and husband Scott; four great grandchildren, Hunter Terry, Holden Terry, Sarah-Kate Ryan and Evie Grace Ryan and one great-great grandchild, Avree Terry. SERVICES: A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM Friday, October 10, 2014 in the chapel of Arrington Funeral Directors with Gary Carlton and Dr. Don Thrasher officiating. Burial will follow in Ridgecrest Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.
