Obituary

Dorothy "Dot" Sue Harris Bratcher, a beacon of warmth and care throughout her 90 years, left this world on December 24, 2025, following a life marked by dedication, joy, and an enduring zeal for the simple pleasures of life. Born on August 19, 1935, in the gentle embrace of Chester County, Tennessee, Dot cultivated a life rich in love, community, and faith, leaving behind a legacy that will fondly be cherished and celebrated.

Dot's professional journey spanned over three decades at Grinnell Corporation, where she championed the Human Resources department until her retirement in 1998. She was a member at Lesters Chapel United Methodist Church. Her beliefs were the cornerstone of her existence, guiding her loving, thoughtful, and kind interactions with the world.

Cooking was Dot's delight, her kitchen acts of service blossoming into edible offerings of love. Famous for her pies and cakes, her culinary prowess was her way of embracing and celebrating life, asserting that "Life isn't worth living without a stove." Her joy in the domestic sphere didn't end with her legendary baking.

In her golden years, Dot continued to sing the melody of life, sharing harmonious moments at the nursing home with her beloved brother Joe, cousin Bobby Neal, and sister Frances. Music became their bond, an echoing chorus of family unity and a gift to all who listened.

Dot's essence was one of radiant vitality; she ensured she faced the world with her trademark lipstick, a symbol of her unyielding spirit and flair for vibrant self-expression. Her attention to the little touches mirrored her approach to life—colorful, full of love, and always leaving a lasting impression.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Pat Dotson (Randy) and Kathy Maness; grandchildren, Brandon Browning, Meg Henley (Brandon), and Stacy Reynolds (Brandon); sister, Linda Blankenship; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and special friend and caregiver, Mary Jane Harris. Dot thought the world of Mary Jane and loved her dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie Virgil Harris and Margaret Edith Hearn Harris; and siblings, Ray Harris, Junior Harris, Ward Harris, Joe Harris, Paul Harris, Frances Grimm, and Ailene Cain.

A funeral to celebrate Dot's life will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 30, 2025, in the chapel of Arrington Funeral Directors. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Officiating the service will be her nephew, Glenn Harris. The burial will follow at Ridgecrest Cemetery.
