Obituary

Claire Marie Walker-Smith, born May 21, 1956, died in her home in Memphis, Tennessee, on September 12, 2020 at the age of 64. She was born in Jackson, TN, and graduated from Jackson Central Merry High School. She moved to Toney, Alabama, after she met and married Hoyt Michael Smith in 1977. There they owned and operated Smith Furniture Refinishing Shop. In the late 1980s, she moved back to Jackson, TN. During her life, she worked in many different areas, including the service industry as well as a sitter for the elderly. At one time, she sold aerial photography, a memorable job indeed. She carried a joyously contagious spirit, so full of fire and humor. Anyone who knew Claire can agree that she was an unforgettable soul who loved with her whole heart. She is survived by her daughter, Meaghan M. Smith; husband, Travis Smith Jr. of Friendship, TN; two grandsons, Dylan Alexander Smith and Brandon Tyler Smith; mother, Christine Walker; sisters Cindy Powers (Larry) Powers of Jackson, TN and Carrie Phipps (Mike) Phipps of Cookeville, TN; nephew Will Hale; niece Emily Carol Powers; two great-nephews; and a great-niece. She was preceded in death by her father, Dentis Lee Walker Jr. on August 10, 2012. In place of a service, the family requests that Claires friends and family please email personal stories, memories, and/or pictures of Claire to meaghan38301@aol.com . Claires daughter, Meaghan, is a writer, and Claire would be so pleased that Meaghan will compile the memories to celebrate her mothers life journey and will share the compilation with her friends, family, and anyone that requests it. Her ashes will be interred at Ridgecrest Cemetery in Jackson, TN, and due to COVID-19, there will be a private family service. Arrington Funeral Directors, 148 W.
