Obituary

Charlie Robert Collins passed away on February 21, leaving behind a lifetime of memories shared with family and friends who loved him deeply.

He was born September 6, 1944, in Hueytown, Alabama, to Earl and Christine Collins. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, his sister, Terry, and his brother, Jimmy Collins.

In the early 1980s, he moved to Tennessee with BellSouth, where he built a long and meaningful career before retiring. Tennessee became more than just home it was where he met the love of his life, Suzy Walker Collins. Together for nearly 30 years, they built a life filled with adventure and laughter. After retirement, the two continued their journey side by side working with FEMA, traveling together and experiencing new places while serving others.

He loved life outdoors and was happiest either at his home on the lake or on the golf course. Hunting, fishing, and especially golf were among his greatest joys. He also shared a special bond with his beloved dog, Baxter, who was never far from his side and brought him constant companionship and happiness.

More than anything, he loved his family. He will be remembered for his steady presence, his love of the outdoors, and the life he shared so fully with the people around him.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Suzy Collins; children, Chuck Collins (Heidi) and Kim Carpenter (Scott); grandchildren, Charlie Collins, Calli Collins, and Max Broderick; and sister-in-law, Jill Miller (Harry).

A memorial service to celebrate Charlie's life will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 28, 2026, at First Presbyterian Church. Reception to follow.
