Charley E. Rohlfing, 77, of Jackson, Tennessee, passed away suddenly on October 11, 2026, at Jackson Madison County General Hospital. Born September 10, 1949, in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, Charley lived a life rooted in faith and a deep love for his family and community.
Charley and his wife of 54 years, Londa, spent the majority of their working years in the Champaign, Illinois area. Feeling led by the Lord in 2017, they chose Jackson as their retirement home. Over the last five years, the two of them became deeply involved in conservative politics locally. Charley was a faithful presence at every City Council and County Commission meeting, determined to know what was truly "going on" in the community he loved. The Jackson Post named him Man of the Year on 1-2-25 in recognition of his commitment as a ‘Watchman on the Wall’ for Jackson and Madison County.
Charley's passions were as varied as they were genuine. While living in the fertile soil of Illinois, he was an avid vegetable gardener. For many years he has worked on his baseball card collection, and has been a Cardinals baseball fan. Music brought him joy, and he played the mandolin and violin with a Jackson Friends of Old Time Music group each Thursday evening at IHOP, where the music and the fellowship were equally cherished. Charley even actually enjoyed ballroom dancing with Londa. He was a faithful member of Cornerstone Community Church of Jackson.
Charley is survived by his wife, Londa Rohlfing; his son, Jeff Rohlfing, and Jeff's wife, Katy Silliman; his daughter, Carmen Niemantsverdriet, and her husband, Jody; and his sister, Phyllis Byerley, and her husband, Roger. He also leaves behind six grandchildren, Cole, Kenzie, Hadasah, Shiloh, Micah, and Noa, who carry his legacy forward and were the pride of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles F. Rohlfing and Gena Torrens Rohlfing.
Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life service on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at Cornerstone Community Church, 730 Pipkin Road, Jackson, Tennessee 38305. Visitation begins at 10 a.m., and the service will follow at 11 a.m., with Pastor Lee Tankersley officiating.
Donations in Charley’s memory are appreciated to First Liberty, a Christian defense group whose mission is to defend religious liberty: firstliberty.org
May Charley be remembered with gratitude, affection, and peace, and his life serve to draw others to his faith in Jesus, his Savior.
